History and Activities
Beis Chaye Rochel operates the Gateshead Jewish Academy for Girls, a Further Education college founded in 1998. The college educates 211 Orthodox Jewish young ladies from all over the world. The courses offered include a curriculum of ‘vocational training in subjects such as information technology, dressmaking, hairdressing, interior design and music’ as part of a more holistic intensive programme of religious Jewish education. All students live in accommodation provided by the academy.
The college obtains about half of its income from philanthropy. In 2017 they received £471,747 in donations and £249,528 in grants. The grant income is derived mainly from the Community Security Trust for security. The CST is a charity which ensures the safety and security of the Jewish Community in the UK. The remained of their income is obtained from fees which are £8,400 per student per annum.
